Yamaha Univeilx XJR 2015

YAMAHA UNVEILS XJR 2015

Yamaha has showcased the classic XJR1300 in two different avatars at the recently concluded INTERMOT motor show at Germany. The 2015 Yamaha XJR1300 was unveiled in standard classic and Cafe' Racer theme. The Yamaha XJR1300 in blue color reminds me the legendary Yamaha RD350, the naked roadster Yamaha XJR1300 has steel double cradle frame housed with 1250cc inline-4 Air cooled DOHC 4-valve engine producing 98PS of Power and 108Nm of torque at 6000 Rpm. The large inline-4 engine is mated to 5-speed transmission gear which transmits the power to the rear wheel of the bike through chain drive.

The Cafe' Racer variant of Yamaha XJR1300 comes with small bikini fairing, clip-on handle bars and short cowl on the rear seat giving the bike a perfect retro cafe' racer look. Both the models have 4-2-1 exhaust system, braking is taken care by the dual front disc brakes and rear single disc brake. The rear suspension is Ohlins gas charged dual shock absorbers whereas at the front Telescopic shock absorbers does the duty.

The Yamaha XJR1300 seems to be the perfect contender to fill the lacunae left by the legendary Yamaha RD350. Similar styling with all modern gadgets have made the Yamaha XJR1300 more apt as a replacement for Yamaha RD350. However the RD was only 350cc but with twin cylinder 2-stroke engine it was a one hooligan. Yamaha has not brought anything to replace RD350 till date in India, although they have introduced other high performance machines in the country but none has satisfied the hardcore bikers to that extent they forget the charisma of Yamaha RD350.

Yamaha has given us the first glimpse of the 2015 models of the XJR1300 and the XJR1300 Racer classic motorcycles ahead of their debut the 2014 Intermot Show in Cologne, Germany. A part of the Sports Heritage Range of the Japanese manufacturer, the XJR1300 motorcycles might be the last models to use air-cooled large displacement four-cylinder engines.

The XJR1200 was the original Japanese cafe racer of the early 90s which was made to compete with the high powered naked bikes like the Honda CB1000. The current generation XJR1300 and the XJR1300 Racer are powered by a 1,300cc inline-four engine which churns out a healthy 98bhp and 108.5Nm of torque.

The XJR1300 Racer gets a lightweight carbon fibre cowling and front fender which gives it the distinctive cafe racer look. It also gets a port styled solo-seat design to complement the narrow fuel tank, and an altered riding position for a genuine cafe racer feel. In line with the motorcycles’ classic image, both the XJR1300 and the XJR1300 Racer come with conventional dual Öhlins suspension at the rear and telescopic front forks. It also gets a 4-2-1 Akrapovic exhaust system.

With the XJR1300 series, Yamaha has targeted the offbeat customisation crowd and as such, is available with a host of personalisation options. Yamaha has priced the XJR1300 and the XJR1300 Racer at EUR 10,395 (Rs 8.14 lakh) and EUR 11,590 (Rs 9.08 lakh) respectively. It is available in three paint schemes- blue, matte grey and black and for now, will be sold only in Europe. It competes with the other Japanese classic motorcycle- the Suzuki GSX1400 and the Honda.

Yamaha steps into the vintage racing bike ring with a straight jab via this new XJR1300 for 2015. Yamaha is well known for its dirtbike segment and for its street bikes, however, in the vein of names like Keino or Deux Ex Machina, the Japanese manufacturer is looking to branch out its two-wheeled devision heading into next year. If it’s technical specs you’re thirsting for, the XJR1300 boasts a 4-cylinder DOHC 1,250 fuel-injected engine that pushes 98 horsepower, complete with a 4-2-1 matte black exhaust. Several colorways are slated for release in Europe including power blue, midnight black and the low-key matte grey, however, an American release has yet to be announcedFor those who love 1980s-style Japanese naked bikes with big dollops of raw performance, Yamaha have unveil the XJR1300 Racer, which has been developed in collaboration with bike builders like the Wrenchmonkees and Deus Ex Machina. With its slim(mer) fuel tank, solo seat, shorter tail section, black pipes and 1300cc air-cooled four-cylinder engine, the XJR1300 looks compact and muscular. With 98 horsepower and 108Nm of torque, the big XJR doesn't have the power-to-weight ratio of 600cc supersports machine, but in terms of sheer style, the 1300 can hang in right there with almost anything else on the street. Damn cool!Yamaha unveil the evolved inline four XJR1300 and XJR1300 Racer, proudly showcasing the influence of recent collaborations with the world’s best customizers.

The Yamaha XJR1300 is an icon whose raw presence has been unrivalled over the last 20 years since it hit the streets. For 2015 the XJR is back, and it’s evolved. The 1300cc naked street machine stays true to its ‘Japanese Performance Classic’ origins with a pure, powerful design and the largest displacement air cooled engine on the market as its beating heart.

The 2015 XJRs sit proudly in the Sports Heritage Range, continuing Yamaha’s drive to deliver beautiful yet functional motorcycles inspired by the past and built for the future.

The last five years have seen Yamaha working closely with various professional custom builders, collaborating to create a series of concept machines together. These truly unique creations are called “Yard Built”. This shared experience has provided a lot of inspiration in product development, Yamaha Motor and Yamaha has started to incorporate custom design into factory bike production as a result.

Collaborations with builders such as the Wrenchmonkees and DEUS Ex Machina have had a significant influence in the development of the new XJR.

The friendship with Keino, who recently unveiled his version of XJR1300 named Rhapsody in Blue, has also helped and influenced bringing this new machine to life.

Following the successful XV950 introduction last year, the new XJR1300 is another motorcycle from Yamaha that’s born customized. The machine rolls out of the factory with stunning styled components in the latest premium materials, looking far from ‘stock’.

Slim fuel tank, solo-seat and black pipesThe slim, racer inspired fuel tank dramatizes the muscular, powerful 4-cylinder air-cooled engine whilst the new solo-seat design gives that custom feel and adds credibility to the performance. The menacing black 4-2-1 exhaust pipe and muffler ends in a new tail cap design, setting off the look. A shorter tail at the rear adds to the compact, muscular silhouette in line with the narrower front tank.

Further standard ‘custom’ additions hint at the respect the bike gives to the production racers of the 1970s, including a cool aluminium side cover in a buffed finish with filter-like mesh inserts. Tapered aluminium handlebars and a compact headlamp come together to highlight the muscular image.

The XJR’s powerful and reliable 4-cylinder DOHC air-cooled engine produces an impressive 98hp and 108Nm of torque. The power plant sits in a steel double cradle frame with a clever engine mounting system designed to re-direct vibrations generated whilst riding.

Supporting a smooth ride are the friction reducing DLC (Diamond-like Carbon) coated inner tubes for the front suspension partnered with a premium Ohlins rear suspension set up.

The fuel tank has also been fully re-designed with a slimmer profile to make the most of the muscular exposed engine whilst still retaining the ability to hold 14.5 litres of fuel. Wider handlebars that sit closer to the rider now offer a more upright seating position, giving more confidence and a cooler ride.
